Q: What are some of the pros and cons of buying used equipment?
A: Used equipment cannot be guaranteed by CLA to be properly functioning or uncompromised if it has not been factory authorized and registered. Buying equipment from a third party is not, and has not been tracked or vetted by CLA, and there can be many inconsistencies between the performance of CLA equipment and that from a third party.
Q: Can I use all models of used equipment in my practice?
A: No, Some of the original instruments were designed with analog processing and cannot be used any longer. They are:
- Insight 7000 EMG console with thermal probes
- Millennium M1 series (look on bottom of console for the serial number beginning with M1 or M2)
- Millennium M2 series
- Thermal T1 series
- Wired inclinometers
- Any EMG sensor leads beginning with K1-7
Q: Will the old software be supported to run the used equipment?
A: The laptop based software, version 7.0-9.2.11 is retiring from active support as of December 31, 2017. All clients will be instructed to migrate to the cloud-based myINSiGHT platform by that time. This laptop software was designed for the original Millennium instruments 17 years ago and cannot be supported any longer.
Q: What do I have to do if I want to purchase used equipment from a third party?
A: Since the instruments are regulated by the FDA as Class II medical devices, a Transfer of Ownership must be completed and registered with CLA. This includes receiving the new myINSiGHT cloud-based software membership for 30 days and registration of the unit.
An inspection fee of $300 will be charged on top of the transfer fee if you elect to send the unit and sensors in for factory inspection and calibration. This inspection fee does NOT include any repairs that may be needed. Shipping is at your cost and a Repair Authorization will be issued by CLA.
